My name is Julie Agnes.

I am a Danish artist and material researcher living in North Thailand since 2020 – my life and work continuously touched by the region's deep nature, Buddhism, and living craft traditions.

My practice moves across clay, textile, and found materials, and is rooted in contemplative processes, material research, and years spent observing nature. It explores the relationship between people, place, and material, and the sense of ritual they share.

Inspired by the ecological and geological forces that shape the earth, I forage materials such as clay, stone, sticks, and straw, and find ways to work with them – through research and making, seeking deeper understanding of the life-giving intelligence held within nature.

In this way, my work is a listening and sharing of the landscape. I am interested in how objects can carry memory and belonging into space, and work across vessel, wall hanging, and installation.

Moving between art and craft, I am curious about the role of traditional knowledge and craftsmanship within contemporary art and an increasingly digitalised society. I engage with making as a transformative and environmental practice, inviting reflection on our ecological identity, and the futures we are making.

Alongside my material practice, I hold a background in dance improvisation, eco-somatics, and performance, echoing through my ongoing project, BODY x EARTH.
